Injuries & Breakdowns PDF  | Print |  E-mail

If your team rider has not returned from their lap when expected check with the race organiser to see if they have been reported by a marshal as being injured or their bike broken.

You must then decide what to do – remember, this could cost your team a lap.

You will be instructed if you can send out a replacement rider out on the course. The replacement rider must exit the Transition Zone and then head out on the course, following the direction of the race course. They cannot short-cut to reach the rider. When they Reach their team-mate and exchange the timing chip, they will become the current team rider. From then on the replacement rider continues on and finishes the lap in the normal manner, passing through the timing section.

A rider who was injured or had a mechanical problem can still compete in the race in subsequent laps.

If the injured rider returns to the start/finish before the replacement rider catches up with them, then the injured rider’s lap time will count. As soon as the team sends out a replacement rider, and the baton exchanged the injured rider’s lap becomes invalid.

It might be handy to carry a phone for emergencies
